Inspired by the novel Snow Flower and the Secrete Fan written by Lisa See, this piece Entwine (II) explored the pure yet complicated relationship between two women through dance vocabularies that are influenced by ballet, contemporary dance forms, and Chinese folk dance and other movement arts. The two females meets each other since young age and develops a sisterly companionship called laotong, which surpass the relationship between husband and wife. Despite difficulties, their love to each other remains the unaltered as years pass by. I am interested in transcribing the evolution of their relationship into abstract movements and spatial composition. Without intending to completely retell the story itself, l stripped off the context and identities of the two females (Snow Flower & Lily) from the original story. What left would be just the two moving body and their emotional states. I attempted to reinterpret it in a physical and poetic way so that only impressions are left to the audience.
